Research Interests:

Subterranean Biology, larval morphology of troglobitic beetles, Conservation Biology, subterranean monitoring, Entomology, Zoology, troglobitic invertebrates morphology, Ecology, Speleology.

 

Education:
January 2009: PhD degree in Environmental biology, title of thesis:
Strategies for monitoring and conservation of troglobitic endemic fauna in some subterranean sites of Sardinia. Tutor: Prof. Achille Casale Supervisor: Prof. Marco Apollonio.

 

November 2003:  Laurea in Natural Sciences at the University of Sassari, Sardinia, (Equivalent to MSc&BSc) thesis title: (Italian): Zoocenosi ad invertebrati di cinque aree forestali della Sardegna nord-occidentale. (English): Zoocenosis of invertebrates in five forest areas of north-western Sardinia

Research activities on the field

Actually working for the Oikos Institute in the monitoring of invertebrate fauna of Baratz lake.

 

Temi society for the monitoring of the genus Speleomantes, (Amphibia  Urodela) and many species of bats.

 

 

 

July 2007: Plan and take part in a fieldtrip in Greece (Peloponnese and Crete) in search of endemic troglobitic species, in anticipation of  future study on the molecular distance between species Sardinian troglobitic beetles and Mediterranean, in collaboration with the University of Sassari, Roma Tre and Tor Vergata.

 

Sept 2006: Work for the creation of the first Red List of “Carabidofauna Italiana”.


2006: Co-author in the description of new species of Isteridae Beetle of north-western Sardinia, Sardulus sacerensis, Casale & Marcia.

 

2005 Creation of new  S.I.C for the presence of Urodela and bats for the Department of Zoology and Biological Anthropology, University of Sassari

 

August-September 05: Organize and go on in an explorative mission in the territories of Central and Southern Madagascar, in search of new species of subterranean fauna and new karstic cavity.

 

Since 2003: Collaborates with researchers from around the country for the study and preservation of Subterranean fauna.

 

Since 1999: Collaborates with the Department of Zoology and Biological Anthropology, University of Sassari, in the studying of the Subterranean fauna of Sardinia.

 

Since 1996: Weekly, exploring new cave, search and discover new species of underground fauna in the many cave of Sardinia.

 

Other experiences on wildlife conservation and ecology:

2005- 2 weeks: Field work on the mouflon project (Montes Forest, Sardinia)  

2005- 2 weeks: Captures of Sardinian mouflon (vertical drop nets) in the Montes Forest, Sardinia (the mouflon project).

2004- 2 week Sardinia: censuses of Sardinian red deer (southern Sardinia), fallow deer (northern Sardinia), wild goats and mouflons (Asinara island), and mouflons (Montes)

2002- 2 week: Captures of Sardinian red deer (vertical drop net and pens) in Sardinia (project: the reintroduction of Sardinian red deer in northern Sardinia).

 

 

Teaching experience

Since 1999: Teacher of Biospeleology in the primary and secondary schools in the city of Sassari.


Since 1999: Teacher of Marine Biology in the diver courses of Mareasub, Sassari.

 

Since 2003: Zoology laboratory lessons for many courses in the Department of Zoology and Biological Anthropology, University of Sassari.

 

Since 2003: supports the teacher of Vertebrate Zoology in the section of amphibians and Bats.

 

Sept. 2008: 7 hours of teaching in the Master in Management and Conservation of wildlife Fauna.

Jan-Dec 2007: Teacher of Zoology at vocational training expert for environmental restauration of underwater and land, natural-archeological sites.

 

May 2007:Teacher of Museology from the Parnaso project 2007.

 

Sept. 2006: 24 hours of teaching in the Master in Management and Conservation of wildlife Fauna.

Jan.-Dec: 2006 Teacher of Botany and Zoology in the course of training in “Expert in nature routes”.

Other Work Experience:

Since 2003: Actively participates in census of: Sus scrofa meridionalis, Vulpes vulpes, Cervus elaphus corsicanus, Dama dama, Ovis orientalis musimon, Lepus capensis, Alectoris barbara, conducted by the Department of Zoology and Biological Anthropology, University of Sassari, in the study of water birds in two ponds near Sassari (Sardinia Italy).
